Most people would find it bizarre to speak of tolerating blonds. For whatever reason, hair color has not been a basis of tribal identity or group politics in our culture; the concept of tolerance is never invoked in this context because there is too obviously nothing to tolerate. In a rational culture, the same would be true of race, ethnicity, and the like.

About Safe Passage

Safe Passage: The Underground Railroad in Southwestern Ohio is a multimedia curriculum based on Ohio's academic standards in language arts and social studies for students in grades six through nine. By engaging in this hands-on experience featuring the Underground Railroad, both teachers and students begin their own journeys, exploring the theme through powerful fiction and nonfiction reading, thought-provoking writing assignments and the moving stories of the people and places of the Underground Railroad.

Safe Passage: The Underground Railroad in Southwestern Ohio is the latest in a line of high-quality, award-winning curriculum kits from CET and its project partners. Through links on this page, you can read about the project and the elements that comprise it, get information about the project partners, and find out how to contact the Safe Passage staff for additional information.
