The purpose of the Northern Kentucky University Institute for Freedom Studies is to promote interdisciplinary research, teaching, and community outreach grounded in the study of the Underground Railroad movement in the Middle Ohio River Valley.
The Institute's "Teaching the Underground Railroad" website provides lesson plans, literature and photographs developed for primary to twelfth grade teachers. The material was designed at the Institute's Underground Railroad Teaching Summit and is "designed to enhance positive societal change while teaching and promoting the ideal of freedom through lessons learned from the Underground Railroad."
