Safe Passage Online

Safe Passage: The Underground Railroad in Southwestern Ohio is designed to engage middle-school students through interesting activities and moving stories of the people and places of the Underground Railroad. The activities in this section - identifying and learning about the symbols of slavery and a quiz on the facts and myths of the Underground Railroad - will support their knowledge and understanding of this major episode in our nation's history.

Slaves escape by coach

While print materials, lessons and activities can speak to the horror and tragedy of slavery as well as convey the heroic efforts of those involved in the Underground Railroad, the message really sinks in when combined with a visit to a site in which lives were forever changed. An annotated list of historic places in our area is included in this section of the Safe Passage website.
